Projecting Michigan Football’s post-spring depth chart
Linebacker
Starters: Junior Colson, Nikhai Hill-Green; Backups: Michael Barrett, Jaydon Hood, Kalel Mullings
If there was one position where Michigan football could use a little more depth, it’s probably at linebacker. However, the Wolverines still have three solid guys they can count on at inside linebacker led by Junior Colson and Nikhai Hill-Green who are becoming stars.
Colson and Hill-Green started last season for the Wolverines. Colson is a former wide receiver that has a rare blend of size and speed for the linebacker position. He’s been compared to Devin Bush but he’s 6-foot-2 and he was a freshman All-American.
Hill-Green is from the same school as Blake Corum and he’s someone that probably gets overlooked a little on defense. However, he was stellar at linebacker in the spring game and it seems like he has put any questions to rest about him starting next season.
Michael Barrett shouldn’t be discounted but he’s just not a true inside linebacker. He offers some different things in terms of coverage and blitzing, and the Wolverines will find inventive ways to utilize Barrett, who is also elite on special teams.
