5 Observations From Michigan Football’s Spring Game
By Alex Hinton
Rough Day for Cade McNamara
Cade McNamara had a solid first season as a starter, throwing for 15 touchdowns, six interceptions, and completing 64% of his passes as Michigan won the Big Ten Championship.
However, when we last saw McNamara, he struggled mightily in the Orange Bowl against Georgia. Saturday was his first opportunity on the field in front of the public and he was not much better.
McNamara played four series combined while rotating in for each team and went 3-for-7 for 16 yards. He threw a couple of balls behind his intended targets and he was the third-best quarterback on the day behind Alan Bowman and walk-on Davis Warren.
Now the spring game is just an exhibition and Michigan football did not show much on offense with Matt Weiss and Sherrone Moore as Co-OC’s now.
McNamara will not lose his job because of this performance and the top challenger, J.J. McCarthy, for his job did not play as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
However, McNamara will need to be much better if he is going to remain the starter. Michigan has too many weapons at the skill positions to not have an explosive passing attack this season.
