Michigan Football: Breaking down former Wolverines’ Pro Day results
By Kylie Piazza
Last Friday, 10 former Michigan football players participated in U-M’ 2022 Pro Day. While seven of these athletes got a chance to showcase their talent at the NFL Combine earlier this month, this is the first opportunity for the other three to make their cases to NFL teams.
At Michigan football’s Pro Day, the players were given the chance to participate in six of the drills that are offered at the NFL Combine. These drills include the bench press, the vertical jump, the broad jump, the 40-yard dash, the three cone drill, and the 20-yard shuttle .
Here is a look at the former Wolverines’ results at the 2022 Pro Day and how they stack up against their position competitors’ NFL Combine stats.
Hassan Haskins
Despite being present at Michigan’s Pro Day, running back Hassan Haskins did not participate in any of the drills. Haskins had an impressive bench press showing at the NFL Combine and likely did not want to risk injury by participating in the Pro Day.
Haskins is expected to be picked up in fourth of fifth round of the NFL draft and will be a positive addition to the run game of whichever team he lands with.
David Ojabo
Edge rusher David Ojabo unfortunately suffered a torn Achilles while participating in Michigan’s Pro Day. Although teams might be wary of picking up an injured player in the NFL draft, Ojabo is expected to be back in about six months.
Ideally, this injury will not impact Ojabo’s draft stock too much and he will still be drafted in the first or second round. If NFL teams are able to focus on his statistics at Michigan and impressive showing at the NFL Combine, there is no question that Ojabo is a future NFL star.
Aidan Hutchinson
Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson had an incredible showing at the NFL Combine earlier this month, finishing with a grade of 6.83 which was the highest of any defensive end. Here, Hutchinson participated in every drill except for the bench press, which was the only drill he competed in on Friday at Michigan football’s Pro Day.
In the bench press, Hutchinson finished with 28 reps which is more than any defensive end produced at the NFL Combine. This impressive result will only further add to Hutchinson’s draft momentum as he is already projected to be drafted as one of the first three picks.
