The game — which will feature the “Maize” team and the “Blue” team — will give the fans first look at this season’s squad and is an excellent preview for the coming year. Here are three players to watch during the 2022 Michigan football spring game.

Will Johnson

With the Wolverines losing a handful of crucial defensive players — many of which are defensive backs — Michigan football will need its younger players to step up. One player that will likely be thrown into a starting role this coming season is Will Johnson, the highest-rated recruit in the Wolverines’ 2021 recruiting cycle.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Johnson comes out of high school as a five-star recruit. Johnson was ranked as the No. 1 player in Michigan, the No. 4 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 14 overall recruit in his class.

With a shallow DB room in Ann Arbor, Johnson should have an immediate chance to play — perhaps even earning a starting role as a freshman for the 2022 season. As the Wolverines eye a second-straight conference title and a playoff berth, Johnson may quickly become a key component of Michigan’s defense.
