Projecting Michigan Football’s depth chart ahead of spring ball
Linebackers
Starters: Junior Colson, Nikhai Hill-Green, Jaylen Harrell (EDGE); Backups: Michael Barrett, Kalel Mullings, Derrick Moore (EDGE)
Michigan is going to need some younger players to step up at linebacker but Junior Colson and Nikai Hill-Green both played enough to be considered returning starters.
Jaylen Harrell also saw significant time last season and each of those guys is on the rise. The issue is going to be a lack of depth and to be fair, Harrell hasn’t shown much as a pass rusher.
Harrell made some nice plays against the run and it seems like he will be able to hold up on the edge just fine. But someone will have to be able to apply pressure on the quarterback and he’s a prime candidate.
Derrick Moore is an incoming freshman who should also get a chance. He’s not enrolling early which could hurt his chances but the Wolverines could just let him use his natural ability off the edge and depending on how he develops, he could also help fill the void left by Hutchinson and David Ojabo.
