Michigan Basketball: 3 things to watch for against Wisconsin
Michigan Basketball takes on Wisconsin at the Kohls Center on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET. The Wolverines enter the game with a big road win over Iowa.
The Wolverines have displayed the very definition of inconsistent basketball all throughout the year. They beat a good team, lose a game they should win and the cycle continues. While the Wolverines win against Iowa is impressive, Wisconsin is just as good if not better.
Michigan basketball can hang with Wisconsin, but there are some things that need to fall in place before that happens, so let’s look at some of those.
1. Can Michigan basketball limit Johnny Davis’s productivity?
Johnny Davis is by far the best player on Wisconsin and is in the conversation for one of the best players in the country. It’s paramount Michigan finds a way to limit his productivity on the court.
Even double-teaming him at times might be the answer as the Wolverines defense has been spotty at best. Johnny gives this Wisconsin team life so we need to go right for the heart of the Badger’s offensive production.
2. Can Michigan prevent a collapse at the end of the game?
Thursday in Iowa got a little intense at the end, while the game always was in Michigan’s control, Iowa got pretty close to changing that narrative. While you can blame it on the officiating crew, nonetheless it happened and it can’t happen again.
One positive to take out of this was U-M shot pretty well from the line at the end of the game. One common theme of all Michigan basketball teams dating back to Beilein has been horrible Free Throw shooting in big situations.
3. Can the Wolverines find a way to hit threes?
Michigan has elite 3-point shooters like Eli Brooks and Caleb Houstan but they just can’t seem to get anything going from downtown. This team used to be lethal from deep, now they’re one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the Big Ten.
The Wolverines finding a way to hit threes (i.e against Indiana) usually results in a blowout win or at the least just a win. Wolverines need to come out firing on all cylinders against the Badgers for any shot in this game.
