It was reported today by Chris Balas that Mike Mcdonald is expected to be the Raven’s next defensive coordinator, leaving the Michigan Wolverines for the Baltimore Ravens.

Wow, what a quick turnaround, we got the news the other day that there was a chance that Mike Macdonald could be leaving the Wolverines to go back to the Ravens to become the Defensive Coordinator.

This was reported by Chris Balas and is not fully set in stone yet, but it appears to be as good as a done deal. Macdonald served as the defensive coordinator for a year under Jim Harbaugh, replacing his predecessor Don Brown.

Mike Macdonald leaving isn’t a surprise

The Michigan football defense skyrocketed to elite status this season after a slow decline year after year in the Don Brown tenure. Macdonald orchestrated the strings of one of the best Michigan defenses we’ve seen in recent years, being an integral part of the success this season.

Wishing nothing but the best for Mike Macdonald, now the Wolverines need to reload and find their guy if this all pans out the way it’s expected to. Top targets for his replacement are unclear at the moment, but there are plenty of fantastic options.

While people will most likely point to this being a sign Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan, I would disagree.

We know little to nothing about what Jim Harbaugh is thinking at the moment, but what we do know is that Mike Macdonald has strong ties to both Harbaughs, so him capitalizing on the opportunity to become a DC in the NFL is expected.
