10 Candidates to replace Mike Macdonald as Michigan Football’s DC
By Kyler Kregel
2. Vic Fangio (Denver Broncos)
The former head coach of the Denver Broncos would be quite the coup for the Wolverines to pull in, as he’s likely to be in high demand around the rest of the NFL as a coordinator.
However, Fangio and Jim Harbaugh have ties dating back to their days at Stanford, where Fangio was the defensive coordinator for the Cardinal defense in 2010, then following Jim in the same capacity to the San Francisco 49ers.
After Harbaugh and the 49ers parted ways, Fangio went on to become the Bears’ defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2019.
His Broncos teams maintained strong defensive units throughout his tenure, but ultimately, his inability to find the right offensive staff and quarterback doomed him, leading to a 19-30 record, and his subsequent firing this offseason.
However, Fangio remains one of football’s elite minds and would make an excellent coordinator for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
