Michigan basketball was a heavy favorite against Minnesota but the Wolverines suffered a really bad loss at home and here are the gut reactions.

This Michigan basketball team is really hard to figure out and the loss Saturday to Minnesota didn’t make it any easier.

Following impressive wins over San Diego State and Nebraska, the Wolverines saw many of their previous issues resurface.

The biggest problem was an inability to get stops in the second half. Jamison Battle scored 27 points in the game and Payton Willis also went off for 17.

In the second half, Michigan didn’t have an answer for either, despite repeated lineup changes and adjustments. Sometimes, good offense just beats good defense.

But on the defensive end, Minnesota was good too. Hunter Dickinson scored 19 points but the Gophers minimized his impact in the second half and the Gophers really stalled the Michigan offense which struggled to respond and also shot poorly to make matters worse.

Here are the gut reactions from a tough loss at home.

Gut reactions to Michigan basketball’s loss to Minnesota

  • You aren’t going to win if you make 3-of-18 3-point attempts.
  • It was way too easy for Minnesota to take Hunter Dickinson out of the game.
  • Brandon Johns was a no-show. Should have seen that coming but didn’t.
  • Terrance Williams and Johns were shockingly bad.
  • The entire bench no-showed.
  • Michigan can’t win with DeVante Jones and Eli Brooks as its main scorers.
  • Caleb Houstan is still too one dimensional.
  • Michigan is consistently inconsistent.
  • It’s a good time for a week off.
  • There still is no set rotation.
  • Juwan has his work cut out for him.
  • Go Blue.
