Cade McNamara is the perfect QB for this team

The one guy who hasn’t gotten enough credit this season is Cade McNamara. Well, that will change after a win Saturday, a win that proved he’s more than just a game manager.

His numbers weren’t off the charts. McNamara was 13-of-19 for 159 yards and he had one interception. That could have derailed everything, but it didn’t.

McNamara proved he has ice in his veins at Penn State and once again on Michigan’s go-ahead drive in the second quarter.

After finding Cornelius Johnson in a tight window on a third down, he hit him up the sideline for 37 yards to set up the Wolverines second touchdown, which put them in front 14-10.

Michigan didn’t trail again and while McNamara didn’t have to make a ton of throws to win, he nearly played a perfect game. He’s also perfect for this team.

After watching his freshman understudy, J.J. McCarthy throw a 31-yard dart up the sideline to Roman Wilson, you could see McNamara cheer and point to McCarthy.

It was subtle, sure, but genuine. Those guys cheer for each other and McNamara has handled that situation so well. He’s just taken care of business and Saturday, he channeled his John Navarre. He became a great Michigan quarterback.

And he delivered a perfect ball on a flea-flicker the next play after McCarthy was in for him. McNamara never flinched. Not against Ohio State and not when every person seemed to doubt him. He just kept winning and now, he’s got his team to Indy.
