Ding-dong! The wicked witch is dead: Michigan Football beats Ohio State
Pride comes before the fall and after Michigan football beat Ohio State Saturday, Buckeye fans should regret celebrating Jim Harbaugh’s contract extension.
At times, it felt like it would never happen. But finally, after seven long years, Jim Harbaugh fulfilled his destiny and took down Ohio State.
It took the right group of players and the right quarterbacks (s), as well as a return to his roots to deliver a 42-27 win over Ohio State in quite possibly the biggest win of his career.
It was clear coming into The Game that Michigan football would need its best from Hassan Haskins and Aidan Hutchinson and the Wolverines got it.
Hutchinson notched three sacks; Haskins rushed 169 yards and five touchdowns in the best performance by a Michigan running back since Tim Biakabutuka.
Even Tim didn’t score five touchdowns on that magical day in 1995 when he ran all over the second-ranked Buckeyes but Haskins did, including four touchdowns in the second half when the game was on the line.
The defense had some struggles but it more than held its own against one of the greatest offenses in college football history — an offense that won’t be in the CFB Playoff.
Hutchinson had three sacks. David Ojabo was all over the place and despite not forcing a turnover, the defense got an enormous three-and-out to open the second half, as well as some key red-zone stops.
Then, in the final minutes, Ojabo got one last sack — probably his last one in the Big House — to seal the deal.
That pass rush made sure that Ryan Day wouldn’t make good on his “Hang 100” comment.
Cade McNamara also deserves lots of credit. He made what could have been a critical error in the first quarter. But after the interception, he didn’t flinch.
Cade threw an absolute dart to Cornelius Johnson and Michigan got back in front 14-10. The Wolverines wouldn’t trail again.
One reason for that was in the second half, Ohio State didn’t stop Michigan once.
Michigan football ran 41 times for 297 yards and the offensive line abused Ohio State in the trenches to the tune of six rushing touchdowns.
Guess the “Beat Ohio” drill was worth it.
