Michigan Football: Grading the Wolverines win over Maryland
Michigan football dominated Maryland on Saturday and here’s our report card for the Wolverines before we look ahead to Ohio State.
As it stands right now, we are less than five days away from Michigan football and Ohio State. Both teams are 10-1 and for the Wolverines, they get their shot to play for the Big Ten East title.
It was exciting to see Michigan football head into “The Game” with some momentum and playing some of its best football.
The win over Penn State was a huge confidence booster and this team stream rolled Maryland and even though it wasn’t a perfect performance, the Wolverines are peaking at right time.
And before we crank things up looking towards the Buckeyes on Saturday, here are the grades from Michigan’s 59-18 win over the Terps.
Offense: A
Even without touchdowns from the defense and special teams, Michigan football notched 45 points on offense and racked up more than 500 yards of total offense.
The passing game yielded 350 yards and both J.J. McCarthy and Cade McNamara threw touchdown passes in the win. McNamara, outside of the helmet passes, was just about flawless and completed 21 of 28 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns.
Like McNamara has been all season, he was efficient and rarely put the ball in jeopardy. He’s rock-solid and his numbers are much better than people give him credit for. He’s now thrown for over 2,000 yards to go along with 14 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Donovan Edwards was the X-factor and even though the ground game was stymied a little, it still got 150 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Plus there were zero turnovers.
A few dropped passes were probably the biggest errors and that’s nit-picky after a 41-point win.
