Michigan Football: Highlights, rapid reactions from Wolverines huge win
Michigan football answered some big questions with a dramatic road win over Nebraska and heads into the bye week 6-0.
We all wondered what would happen when Michigan football finally fell behind — when the Wolverines finally committed a turnover in a meaningful situation?
The answer is that this Michigan football team found a way to win and did so against a dangerous Nebraska team Saturday night, improving to 6-0 for the first time since 2016.
Jake Moody drilled the game-winning field goal with just over a minute left. But earlier in the final stanza, the game was very much like it was tilting in Nebraska’s favor.
An Adrian Martinez touchdown run put the Huskers in front 29-26 and came on the heels of a Blake Corum touchdown run.
Corum’s score was right after a furious half-minute that saw Michigan football give up two touchdowns and turn the ball over (Cade McNamara’s first INT). The score went from 19-7 to 22-19 Nebraska, literally in seconds.
But McNamara responded and so did the rest of the offense. The Wolverines got in field goal range thanks to an incredible run from Hassan Haskins and eventually tied it up (29-29).
Then, Brad Hawkins made the biggest play of the game — forcing Martinez to fumble with two minutes to go — giving Michigan football an easy field goal attempt to win.
Well, not easy. Jake Moody just made it took that way as he connected on four goals. Michigan football led at half 13-0 thanks in part to this diving catch from Mike Sainristil.
This first-half interception by Daxton Hill proved to be key too. The defense forced two turnovers (as we predicted it would) and shut the door with a fourth-down stop on the last possession.
Here’s more on the win.
Rapid reactions to Michigan football’s win
- Cade McNamara is a gamer. He faced adversity but averaged 11.6 per attempt and helped Michigan football score a huge come-from-behind win (2nd time in his career).
- J.J. McCarthy didn’t play too much until the last series.
- Jake Moody has ice in his veins. What a weapon.
- The red zone offense is a concern (too many runs).
- Michigan needed a touchdown, not a field goal on the last drive. Ohio State or another team could have won that game. Unless you are kicking with zero time left — play for six.
- Didn’t mind Harbaugh going for two at all. Love the aggressiveness.
- Erick All and Mike Sainristil showed up big.
- Daylen Baldwin and Cornelius Johnson did too.
- Corum and Haskins are dawgs.
- David Ojabo is an NFL pass rusher.
- Daxton Hill will be an All-American.
- The hot seat has cooled.
- IT’S GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE!
