Michigan Football, Cade McNamara deliver a statement win at Wisconsin
Michigan football dominated Wisconsin on Saturday and made a statement in the process.
Michigan football came, it saw, and it conquered Camp Randall on Saturday.
The Wolverines hadn’t won at Camp Randall since 2001. Jim Harbaugh was 0-12 as an underdog at Michigan football.
Yet both those steaks ended Saturday. Michigan football also announced itself as a true Big Ten East contender following its 38-17 thrashing of the Badgers.
The question coming into the game, was whether Cade McNamara could win a game with his arm. And while it wasn’t always pretty, it was effective. He threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns including a dagger to Cornelius Johnson early in the fourth quarter, as well as another that opened the scoring in the first quarter.
Through five games, Michigan football hasn’t trailed and until a late interception by Alan Bowman, it hadn’t turned the ball over.
The running game wasn’t outstanding, but it was effective. Hassan Haskins scored a touchdown. So did J.J. McCarthy in the third. The freshman also threw a touchdown to put Michigan up 38-10.
What it means
It means that we can’t stop talking about Jim Harbaugh and the hot seat. For a while. Wisconsin wasn’t ranked. I get that but the Badgers are a solid team and winning in Madison is a huge step forward for this program.
And the defense carried the day. The offense did it’s job but Aidan Hutchinson and Daxton Hill dominated the final 30 minutes and held the Badgers scoreless in the third and fourth until a garbage time touchdown.
Hutchinson and Hill are elite. The offensive line put together a stellar performance and Michigan football proved something to itself as much as to anyone else.
That was a championship performance and the coaching staff is getting the most out of the talent. It’s not always fancy, but Michigan is back to being Michigan.
That’s something we can all say with confidence.
