Michigan Basketball: Could multiple commitments be on the way?

Michigan basketball has hosted some key targets in recent weeks and it seems like the Wolverines are on the verge of not just one, but two commitments in 2022.

It gets lost a little bit with football season in full swing, but this is a key time for college basketball recruiting, especially with the early-signing period opening in November.

Recruits can sign on November 10th and right now, Michigan basketball has two 2022 recruits committed to doing just that in point guard Dug McDaniel and center, Tarris Reed.

But obviously, the Wolverines are after much more. Michigan basketball is looking at signing at least four recruits in the 2022 class and the next two commitments were likely on campus earlier this month for official visits.

Five-star Yohan Traore was in Ann Arbor last weekend, but it’s hard to get a gauge of his recruitment, especially now that he’s visiting Kansas, even though the Jayhawks didn’t crack his final top 10 list.

Prior to his visit, Jett Howard, Juwan’s son and close friend of the family, Gregg Glenn, a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, took official visits.

McDaniel was on that visit too and all three of those guys are close. Glenn is a 6-foot-7 forward who has some intriguing skills, especially as a shot creator. His 3-point shot leaves something to be desired and that will take work.

That being said, he’s ranked 109th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as 80th in the 247 sports rankings for 2022. He’s a consensus four-star prospect and while he’s going to need to be developed, Michigan basketball needs some 3-4 year guys on the roster too.

And Glenn is a good fit. He brings some size as a versatile forward/wing, which is also something that the U-M roster is going to need.

Michigan poised to add at least one commitment

The four-star recruit announced he was going to commit on Oct. 4 and since then, multiple experts at Rivals have projected him to Michigan basketball, which owns all of his Futurecast predictions.

While there have been no crystal ball projections yet, that can’t be said for Jett, who has numerous crystal ball picks for Michigan.  Here’s what Matt Em of mgoblog wrote about Glenn/Jett:

"“Gregg Glenn will make his college destination public on October 4th. Glenn is fresh off an official visit to Ann Arbor and all four Future Cast predictions are in favor of the Wolverines. I’m not going to insult your intelligence and pretend this is a fierce battle. With deep ties to the Howard family and a committable offer now available, all things point to a Michigan pledge next Monday. The question is whether his good friend Jett joins the festivities.”"

And there are some rumblings that Howard could commit around the same time as Glenn. There have been rumors of the two making some sort of announcement together, and while that’s just conjecture, it has been assumed Jett would commit and sign in the early period.

So I would fully expect Glenn to commit to U-M next week and after that, Jett Howard is likely to follow. As far as Traore, Michigan does seem to be in the mix.

And the Wolverines seem ready to take five in this class if they are able to get the fastest-rising prospect in 2022 (Yohan) to commit too.

It’s reasonable to see five open scholarships in this class if it works out the right way and it’s smart to pursue talent and let everything else sort itself out.
