Michigan Football: Grading the Wolverines win vs Rutgers
Special teams: B
It was a solid day as the Wolverines made two field goals but the miss by Jake Moody in the fourth quarter gave Rutgers new life and that was the biggest black eye.
The coverage was solid throughout and A.J. Henning delivered a 26-yard return, however, it was a solid, yet unspectacular day as far as the return teams go.
Coaching: B
Michigan took its foot off the gas. There’s no doubt about that and the coaching staff needs to take responsibility for that. Also, maybe dial up a few more outside runs for Corum, who is explosive on the edge.
The defense got stops when it needed, particularly in key situations (4th down, red zone) and the scheme wasn’t the issue. The defensive front got tired and the offense didn’t help with its run of three and outs.
The biggest decision will be at quarterback. Jim Harbaugh obviously believes in McNamara but if he continues to play as he did on Saturday, Harbaugh owes it to the team to give J.J. McCarthy a chance to show what he can do.
