Michigan football has its sights set on flipping five-star cornerback Domani Jackson. Can the Wolverines succeed? Here’s the latest.

Just a few weeks ago, it felt like Michigan football‘s chances of flipping five-star cornerback Domani Jackson was more of a longshot than a realistic possibility.

Of course, it helped that Jackson had planned to take an official visit for Michigan football’s game against Washington. His friendship with Will Johnson and the fact that his dad is a Wolverines fan were other factors that seemed to help Michigan.

But the five-star cornerback pledged to USC back in January and hasn’t wavered, although he has continued to take visits and is also set to take one to Alabama.

Michigan has been involved in this recruitment much longer and before Jackson pledged to the Trojans, he was strongly considering doing the same with Michigan.

But the struggles on the field and all the questions surrounding Jim Harbaugh’s future put the Wolverines on the backburner.

Now, Harbaugh is back with an extension and after a 3-0 start to the 2021 season, the hot-seat questions have faded, at least for now.

Is Michigan now in the lead?

That and the win over Washington, as well as the atmosphere of the “Maize Out” all helped with Domani, who was impressed with the visit. Then, USC fired head coach Clay Helton and as things stand now, the past few weeks couldn’t have gone better for Michigan football.

On the most recent episode of The Michigan Insider Podcast, Sam Webb, even said, while clarifying it was just his opinion, “That Michigan is the team to beat for Domani.”

Webb also interviewed Domani’s dad, Randy for the Podcast, who said this about the 5-star’s visit to Ann Arbor:

"“They did everything that they needed to do. It was mainly just about seeing how Domani fit in there, and when he walked around, the feeling that he got. The fans, were they receptive too him? Which they very much were. He was surprised at how many people knew who he was. The student body, when you walked past there they were yelling things at him (like), ‘we want Domani! We want you to be here!’ So, that was very welcoming to him, and that meant a lot to him.”"

Donte Williams was a huge part of Jackson committing to USC and he’s the interim head coach right now. That tag isn’t likely to stick and if he isn’t retained on the staff, that will be another blow for the Trojans.

Alabama is also in the mix and the Crimson Tide are always a threat. But there’s plenty of reasons to like Michigan’s chances right now and it just seems like everything is working in its favor.
