Michigan Football: An interesting possible visitor and key crystal ball
Michigan football has lots of momentum on the recruiting trail and here’s the latest on an interesting possible visitor, as well as a key crystal ball.
After the commitment of defensive tackle Mason Graham last week, Michigan football has 16 verbals in the 2022 recruiting class and that’s a number that should be growing soon.
The next addition to Michigan football’s 2022 class could also be on the defensive line as three-star Kenneth Grant has been trending with crystal ball projections and got another from 247 sports analyst Allen Trieu — one of the top recruiting reporters in the Midwest — to the Wolverines.
Trieu’s prediction is the fifth in favor of the Wolverines and according to The Michigan Insider Podcast, Grant is looking to make a decision relatively soon.
There’s not an exact date but Ohio State has been the top rival and unless that timeline gets pushed back, Michigan is the clear favorite for the 6-foot-4, 335-pounder ranked 511th overall in the 2022 composite rankings.
While Grant is one recruit to keep an eye on in terms of making a commitment, another is three-star linebacker Deuce Spurlock. He just received a Futurecast pick from Rivals recruiting expert EJ Holland and announced on Tuesday that he was going to visit Ann Arbor this weekend.
There’s been some back and forth on Spurlock but the staff likes his ability and with Lander Barton looking like a really tough pull out of Utah, the linebacker out of Alabama, ranked in the 1,248 in the composite rankings could be the next guy to commit.
With Spurlock coming on an official visit this soon after Holland’s pick, I’d feel confident in the Wolverines and who knows, maybe he pulls the trigger this weekend.
Another potential visitor
Michigan football fans will remember the name of Justyn Martin, a four-star quarterback in the 2022 class who was committed to Cal, at least he was.
On Tuesday, Martin decommitted, and according to what he told Greg Biggins of 247 sports, Michigan has already been in contact with him and a visit this weekend could happen.
"“I may visit Michigan this weekend for the Rutgers game,” Martin said. “I’ve been talking with them on and off ever since they offered. Once I de-committed today, they blew my phone up and talked with me, my dad, and my coaches. Courtney Morgan reached out to coach Fig (Malik James) and then coach Weiss hit me up. I’ve been to Michigan before but being out there on a game day would be a great experience so we’ll see if we can get that locked in for sure.”"
Martin is ranked as the No. 277 overall prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022, as well as the No. 21 quarterback. U-M does have Jayden Denegal committed but Martin could be another target and it’s hard to know if that would mean two QBs in 2022 or just one.
But it’s something to monitor this weekend along with being on commitment watch.
