Michigan Football: More expert projections for Wolverines in 2022

Michigan football hasn’t landed a commitment in months but that could be changing soon as a number of recruiting experts put in new projections. 

In the world of recruiting, not all expert projections are made equal. But when it comes to the national recruiting scene, few are better than Steve Wiltfong.

He’s correct 96 percent of the time and is hitting 91 percent this cycle. He’s also one of the best insiders in recruiting, so when he projected Joshua Josephs to Michigan football, it was significant.

Josephs is a coveted three-star edge rusher that Michigan football wants badly. In his top three, the Wolverines are battling Kentucky and Tennessee for his commitment.

Things have been a little back and forth. Josephs was supposed to announce his decision on Oct. 1 but just recently said he would be pushing that back. That came after he canceled a visit to Michigan for the Washington game to go to Tennessee.

Now that visit is back on as reported by 247 sports. EJ Holland also confirmed and also put in a Futurecast pick for the Wolverines. Wiltfong used a confidence level of six and now that the pass rusher is coming, it makes getting a win this weekend even more important.

Michigan football visit list is loaded

The Wolverines have an impressive list of visitors coming this weekend which includes five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly, who was also projected to Michigan on Tuesday by Holland.

Walter Nolen and Domani Jackson will be in attendance, as well as other key targets such as Kenneth Grant, Deone Walker, Josephs, Lander Barton, and more.

Speaking of Grant, he’s another recruit that Michigan football has been gaining ground with and Holland also projected the big defensive tackle to U-M.

Grant is listed at 6-foot-4, 335 pounds, and is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2022 class. Even without Nolen, if Michigan was able to land Walker and Grant, that would be huge for the defensive line and not just because of their size.

There was a projection to Ohio State last month and this definitely feels like a Michigan or Ohio State decision for Grant. But the Wolverines have pushed harder and more consistently.

A win on Saturday, even over a Washington team that’s unranked, would be a sign to recruits that Michigan football is back on track and that’s something they are more likely to commit to.

Now, if the Wolverines lose, that could all change. But a win Saturday could actually lead to some commitments or at the very least could firmly establish Michigan football as the favorite.

Either way, all these expert projections are positive developments and despite not landing a verbal commitment since July, U-M has momentum and is poised to end the spell.
