#2. J.J. McCarthy is poised to surpass McNamara sooner rather then later.

This is also an overreaction that is simply not true. It is thoroughly unwise to base McCarthy’s performance after just one showing. He executed his style fairly well with one out of the ordinary play that will be gushed about by many around the program. It’s beyond evident that he has all the tools to be a generational talent that hasn’t been seen in a Michigan football uniform in some time.

McNamara, on the other hand, really managed the attack solidly and didn’t have to put all of it on his shoulders. He was accurate and took what the defense gave him to have a quality outing in the amount of time he was given. By no means did he do anything to lose his job, but he’ll be expected to do more as the competition ramps up in one week.

Having McCarthy gain some precious playing time in the blowout was a serious feather in the cap for Harbaugh though.

Although it would be a major coup to redshirt the future of the position, McCarthy is just to valuable to leave on the sidelines even as the primary backup behind McNamara.
