The staff of GBMWolverine.com ponders how Michigan football will function entering Jim Harbaugh’s seventh year as head coach.

It’s finally game week for the Michigan football team as the Wolverines are set to host Western Michigan on Saturday.

We’ll have a bunch of pregame coverage this week, getting you ready for the season opener but first, here’s how our staff believes the season will play out:

Jared Dettmer

After a disaster of a 2020 campaign, many predict little improvement from this season’s squad. I see a significant rebound ahead for the Maize and Blue. I think that means nine wins, and a good amount of momentum heading into 2022, J.J. McCarthy’s first full season as the starter.

I think the three losses come to Washington, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. Big wins against Penn State, Indiana, and Michigan State will push the Wolverines into a rare Harbaugh bowl win as well in the Outback Bowl.

Alex Hinton

Expectations are tempered in Ann Arbor and I think that may work to Michigan’s advantage. There is still a ton of talent on this team, especially compared to the rest of the Big Ten. It feels like there is a positive vibe around the team due to the changes in the coaching staff and rejuvenating the players.

I think Michigan will lose to Wisconsin and Ohio State. The games I keep going back and forth on are Washington and Penn State.

I predict that Michigan splits those games and finishes 9-3. A 9-3 record with a possible bowl win with a young roster would give Michigan some momentum heading into next season.
