Michigan Basketball: Early predictions for this season’s stat leaders
By Max S.
Assists: DeVante’ Jones
I am so excited to see what DeVante’ Jones can do for this Michigan basketball team this season. For those of you that haven’t seen him play or know what kind of player he is, I will link a video breakdown of his game at the end of this page.
Michigan was fortunate to land Mike Smith last off-season and he did a great job of taking over the PG spot and being a leader for Michigan. Smith was terrific but I think Jones can be even better.
He will be in a similar spot as Mike Smith was a season ago. He is coming from a team where he had to do it all and will have much more talent and help in Ann Arbor.
Jones is a big physical guard that loves to get to the basket and make his presence known on defense. He led the country in steals last year and always finds himself around the ball. He’s not tall, but he has an impressive wingspan for his height and is built like a linebacker.
I think when we finally see him in action for Michigan, he will become more of a facilitator and should lead the team in assists. I think his ceiling will depend on how well he can shoot it from deep. If Jones can shoot 35-40% from three, he has the potential to be an All-Big Ten player.
Here is a breakdown of his game from Ant Wright for those that are unfamiliar with DeVante’ Jones:
