Michigan basketball extended a new offer on Tuesday to Yohan Traore and the Wolverines also have another target set to visit in September.

It seemed like only a matter of time before Michigan basketball was going to offer Yohan Traore and that finally happened on Tuesday as Juwan Howard offered one of the fastest-rising prospects in the entire 2022 recruiting class.

Traore is a 6-foot-10 recruit who’s got the ability to play both center and power forward, which is why this offer makes sense, even though the Wolverines just landed the commitment of four-star center target Tarris Reed.

This news was reported by Joe Tipton.

Traore is ranked 67th overall right now in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022, but that ranking is going to rise. The Wolverines have been tracking the big man for a while and there seemed to be some question about U-M chasing another big guy.

Yet, he’s got a nice jump shot that still needs to develop. He’s also a plus athlete and someone who would fit well alongside someone like Reed as a four-man.

What’s significant for Michigan basketball isn’t just the offer but the response to it as Traore told Endless Motor Sports that he will be taking a visit to Ann Arbor this fall, which tells you something since Michigan just offered.

Other schools in the mix with offers include Oregon, Kansas, Louisville, Houston, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, and Arizona, while Gonzaga has also had an interest.

We’ll probably know more about where Michigan stands in this recruitment when he takes his visit this fall but it’s telling about who the staff will prioritize going forward in 2022.

Multiple visitors this fall

Jett Howard is obviously the No. 1 priority for the class. He’s the key but you have to feel confident that Juwan is going to land his son who is set to visit campus this fall.

However, who will Michigan land with the fourth spot?

It does seem like the Wolverines are focused on power forward/combo forwards with the final spot in this class, which is probably smart with the expected exodus over the next couple of years in Hunter Dickinson, Brandon Johns, Caleb Houstan, as also potentially Moussa Diabate.

While the offer to Traore is significant, there was other key recruiting news as four-star forward Gregg Glenn has scheduled a visit in September according to Dylan Burkhardt of UM Hoops.

Glenn is ranked 93rd overall in the 247 sports composite rankings right now and the 6-foot-7, 215-pounder can play both the three and the four. He’s also very close to Juwan.

Earlier this month, Glenn released a top five that included Michigan basketball, Virginia Tech, South Florida, Georgia, and Iona.

Looking at that list, it’s clear if Juwan and Michigan make a strong push for Glenn, the Wolverines will have a great chance to land him.

But unless Michigan is going to take five players in this class, which seems a bit heavy, then I’d expect Michigan to attempt to land Traore first, with Glenn also being a take down the road depending on how things play out.

Eric Dailey is another name to watch. Many believe he will play professionally instead of in college, but if he does play college hoops, Michigan basketball should have a legit shot.

Florida and Texas A&M are also listed as “warm” on his 247 sports profile, along with Michigan, but he’s got ties to Juwan after playing at IMG and he’s another to watch for in terms of visiting.
