Michigan Football: Final depth chart predictions before fall camp
CB Starters: Gemon Green, D.J. Turner, Vincent Gray; Backups: Andre Seldon, Vincent Gray, Darion-Green Warren.
S Starters: Daxton Hill, Brad Hawkins; Backups: R.J. Moten, Makari Paige
Essentially, Michigan football returns its entire starting secondary, although if you believe some recent reports about D.J. Turner, he could be starting instead of Vincent Gray opposite Gemon Green.
Green had some rough moments last season, but he improved as the season went on and led the team in pass deflections. He needs to catch some of the balls thrown his way this year but Green is a guy that looks like he could have a future in the NFL.
The No. 2 spot will be one of the most contentious fights of fall camp with Gray looking to hold off Turner. Andre Seldon and Darion Green-Warren were also highly-rated recruits and it will be interesting if they can add to the depth/competition in the slot and on the outside.
I’ve said before I wouldn’t mind seeing Daxton Hill playing in the nickel full-time. He can cover, blitz, and help support the run defense. He is Michigan football’s best athlete and it would be great to get him around the ball more.
Brad Hawkins is solid and if he’s healthy, he will also help shore up the run defense. A move by Hill to the slot or corner could open a starting job for Makari Paige or R.J. Moten, so keep an eye on them too.
