Michigan basketball has added a second member to their 2022 recruiting class with the addition of 4-star big man Tarris Reed. He chose the Wolverines over three other Big Ten schools; Michigan State, Ohio State, and Purdue.

Tarris Reed is coming off an impressive summer of AAU ball where he has started to see his stock rise rapidly. He currently ranks as a 4-star and the 71st player in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. His ranking is expected to rise in the coming months. After the commitment from Reed, Michigan basketball now has the 13th ranked recruiting class in the country.

Fit for Michigan basketball

The Wolverines needed a big man in this class. With Hunter Dickinson likely only being in Ann Arbor for one more season, Juwan Howard needed a big man that could potentially be ready to play from day one. Tarris Reed was the perfect fit.

Reed isn’t a raw prospect that will need a ton of time to grow before he sees the floor. He’s polished, much like Hunter Dickinson, and should be ready to contribute from day one at Michigan. He’s athletic enough, has a college-ready body, and has a complete offensive skill set.

Reed is efficient in the post and already has a full arsenal of post moves. He has no problem banging down low but he’s not afraid to step outside and knock down jump shots either. He has the potential to be an elite defender but isn’t quite there yet.

What’s Next for Michigan basketball?

Michigan now has two members of their 2022 recruiting class, Dug McDaniel and Tarris Reed. It is still unknown how many spots are left in the class but based on the current scholarships, it’s hard to imagine more than five players in this class.

With McDaniel and Reed locked up and Jett Howard expected to join them, it is possible that only two spots remain. Michigan will look to add a couple of wings to fill out the class. Michigan basketball is currently in good shape with Ty Rodgers, Gregg Glenn, AJ Casey, and Eric Dailey.

With so much interest yet so few spots open, I wouldn’t be shocked if Michigan wraps up this class early in the coming months.
