Michigan Football: 2022 5-star target projected to Clemson
Michigan football is a finalist for five-star safety Keon Sabb and here’s the latest on his recruitment with a decision coming Saturday.
The Michigan football staff has done a good job of working its way back into the mix for 2022 five-star safety Keon Sabb.
However, with a decision coming Saturday and another crystal ball prediction coming in Thursday for the Clemson Tigers, it looks like those efforts will fall short.
Sabb is the No. 22 prospect overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety is ranked seventh overall in the specific 247 rankings.
Michigan football wasn’t originally in his top five. He actually took his first visit to Penn State, but the Wolverines were able to get a visit in late June and made the final six along with Clemson, Georgia, Texas A&M, Penn State, and LSU.
With Michigan being a late addition to his list and getting a visit, there was some hope that the Wolverines would be able to pull off a stunner. Steve Wiltfong, who put in an earlier crystal ball for Sabb to Clemson last month, lowered his confidence level.
Yet, another 247 sports expert Anna Hickey put in a crystal ball for the Tigers with a confidence level of six on Thursday, and while that doesn’t make Sabb to Clemson a lock, it maybe will put an end to the talk to the Tigers are fading.
Georgia is the team many believe is the one to watch. Clemson has been viewed as a favorite in the race too. Every team is giving their final pitch and Sabb’s father told 247 sports he’s hearing from Michigan football every day. ‘We talked to A&M yesterday and LSU yesterday, Michigan is every day.”
It doesn’t look like it will be Michigan in the end for the IMG product, but it won’t be for a lack of trying. In the end, the Wolverines lost momentum with the staff shakeup and it was probably just too late to win it back.
Another 2022 DB projected to Auburn
Recruiting at the safety position hasn’t gone all that well for Michigan football in 2022. The Wolverines are still aiming for in-state prospect Dillon Tatum, who is a four-star recruit ranked in the top 300 overall.
If Tatum ends up in the class, then there will be no worries about the position. But with Ja’Kobi Albert, another target that emerged recently and actually received a crystal ball projection to the Wolverines, now picking up a couple of predictions to Auburn, Tatum is even more important.
Albert is a high-ranking three-star recruit at 366th overall and is out of Fairfield, Alabama. He took an official visit to Ann Arbor and was projected to U-M not long after, but more predictions didn’t follow and now the Tigers are trending.
So for now, unless things shift with Sabb or Albert, Tatum remains the key piece of Michigan football’s recruiting at safety in 2022.
