Michigan basketball is being rumored as an addition to the US Olympic team and here’s a look at how the former Wolverine could possibly fit.

The US Men’s basketball team hasn’t gotten off to a great start in the lead up to the Olympics and making matters even worse is that Bradley Beal won’t be able to play in Japan due to health and safety protocols.

But in some potentially cool news for Michigan basketball fans, Duncan Robinson is among those being talked about as a replacement for Beal, which would mean that the former Division III player and undrafted free agent would be headed to the Olympics.

That Robinson is being considered as an addition to Team USA is being reported by Grant Afseth who covers SI.com.

Obviously, there are going to be lots of great candidates such as Zion Williamson to add to the roster. However, not all players want to play for USA basketball, which is one thing to consider.

The other is that you can’t just amass a crazy amount of talent and hope to win — you need to build a team, one with complementary parts and Robinson would fit perfectly with the roster.

Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard have been leading the way offensively in the past two games for Team USA including the win over Argentina but they are the only players who have made multiple 3-point attempts in the past two games and a guy like Robinson, who is a career 42-percent 3-point shooter, could make sense.

He’s been a reliable sharpshooter his entire career and was 40.8 percent his season for the Heat. The former Michigan basketball standout isn’t going to be a starter. But USA basketball needs to shoot the ball better and Robinson is one of the best floor-spacers in the NBA.

Robinson also isn’t a superstar. He doesn’t need to dominate the ball and sometimes, people forget that it can be hard to mesh five all-star talents on the floor.

You need those complementary pieces too and of the guys available, Robinson might not be the most talented but could be the best fit with the rest of the roster.
