Edge rushers offer potential

Michigan football has done a ton of work on the recruiting trail over the past month, adding three pass rushers, a linebacker, and a cornerback.

How this class works out is largely going to depend on if the coaching staff was right about its evaluations. Michigan was really excited about getting Kevonte Henry. He’s someone the staff sees as a really good get. The same can be said about Pollard. Here’s a great summary from Seth at mgoblog about how the staff viewed this one as opposed to the experts.

"“The rankings suggest the kind of guy Tom Allen usually pulls to Indiana, IE as far below the four stars as he is above the average MSU recruit. Meanwhile, they’re popping champagne in Schembechler Hall over a recruitment that for Pollard’s future position coach dates back to Maryland. The drift towards Auburn that the recruiting industry shrugged at set off a five-alarm fire on State Street. They did NOT want to lose this one.”"

That tells you how important the staff was to Pollard and if they are right about him, that’s going to be a positive development.

Mario Eugenio, who is a four-star recruit in the 247 composite rankings, has also been looking impressive. And it’s worth wondering if Pollard or Henry could eventually join him?

Aaron Alexander is also due for a bump in the rankings and he’s one that Michigan football’s staff identified well before the recruiting services did. But Myles Pollard, a four-star according to Rivals, is a perfect example of why the system isn’t perfect.

Pollard is 6-foot-2 and he’s got shutdown corner skills. Yet, 247 sports still has him ranked as a three-star prospect — something that will/should change.

Every recent commitment fits an athletic profile and these are recruits with upside. The rankings will update before signing day and it seems like those updates will be favorable to many of Michigan football’s verbal pledges.

Now, a look at who could be next?
