The Wolverines have been hotter than a pizza oven on the recruiting trail as of late with a flurry of commitments to Jim Harbaugh’s reinvigorated staff.

The hits are coming fast and furious over the last month in Ann Arbor. A plethora of recruits have given their respective pledges to Michigan football to continue their careers on the field. In the process, it has instantly skyrocketed the 2022 class from top 25ish to the top 10 of the 247sports team rankings.

Will Johnson remains the box office attraction, but Michigan is flirting with the prospects of one of the premier defensive stalwarts in the class by the name of Walter Nolen. Nolen is being wined and dined by the cream of the crop of college football programs, so Michigan football’s chances of landing him will be critical if they intend to close the gap on Ohio State’s top-ranked class.

C.J. Stokes and Aaron Alexander heated up the summer early with their verbals to Michigan on the same day. Quarterback Jayden Denegal joined the fray four days later to presumably fill a role behind J.J. McCarthy, depending on how things align there. Then to close that week Kevonte Henry and Alessandro Lorenzetti committed within hours of each other.

Colston Loveland, Mario Eugenio, and the latest to jump on the bandwagon, Myles Pollard, all made their intentions known to dawn the winged helmet. The hot streak may not end there though. The staff will have to pull out all the stops that are humanly possible to secure the likes of Nolen and others, especially if they want to extend their time in Ann Arbor past next season.

More top targets trending

Other names who got crystal balled to Michigan football include Deuce Spurlock, Ja’Kobi Albert, Dillon Bell, Deone Walker, and D’Arco Perkins-McAllister.

Dillon Tatum is a local product who may be the equivalent to how Donovan Edwards was during his time in the cycle. None of them are mortal locks to sign on the dotted line in Ann Arbor though, but the momentum is trending in the right direction.

Success for this class will be measured if the Wolverines can somehow land Nolen and even steal an athlete or two that they are not expected to nab. Not to mention how they perform on the gridiron and how the NIL impacts things is still to be determined.

Otherwise, the usual naysayers on social media will be out in full force crying about how weak the class is as a whole. However this class will already be behind the 8-ball when they pair up with the Buckeyes, but virtually no one can catch up to their heights of recruiting prowess to this point.
