Michigan Football: More on Myles Pollard and what comes next
By Brock Heilig
Michigan football made yet another addition to its 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon when three-star cornerback Myles Pollard committed to the Wolverines.
The three-star cornerback isn’t the highest-rated prospect, in fact, of the three defensive back commits, (Will Johnson, Kody Jones, and Pollard) he is rated the lowest.
That shouldn’t be an area of concern though for fans. Pollard, who is a former wide receiver, hasn’t been playing cornerback as long as some of the others in his class. He is believed to have plenty of potential at the position, and will continue to grow and learn.
Pollard, who is the 15th commit of the 2022 recruiting class, hails from Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. Pollard joins four-star commit Kody Jones as the only Tennessee natives in Michigan football’s 2022 class so far.
That may not seem like an important detail, but you may remember that five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen is also from Tennessee. Kody Jones has already begun his pitch to Nolen, and Pollard should now be expected to do the same.
As mentioned earlier, Pollard is the third defensive back commit of the class, and further adds to the narrative that newly-hired defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale is a top-notch recruiter.
Clinkscale landed three of the team’s top targets in the defensive backfield, including Will Johnson, who so far has stayed true to his pledge and Clinkscale will do everything in his power to keep him in the class.
What’s next for the Wolverines?
Now that Michigan football has three defensive backs in the fold, the focus will now turn to two final players. One of which, is three-star cornerback Jahlil Florence out of San Diego, California.
Florence included Michigan in his top three schools, which also included Washington and Oregon. It will be interesting to see if Clinkscale still pushes hard for Florence, despite the commitment of Pollard, or if he backs off for the time being.
The other player is one who is very familiar to Michigan fans and his name is Domani Jackson. Although the five-star cornerback is committed to USC, and has been since January, there has been anxious optimism from the Michigan fanbase that Jackson will flip to Michigan to join his fellow classmate Will Johnson in Ann Arbor.
The duo have expressed interest in playing together, even stating at some points that they would be a package deal. Things are not trending in that direction, however, as Johnson and Jackson both seem to be solid on their pledges.
With 15 spots in the 2022 class now taken, there are roughly ten spots remaining in this cycle. Here are some names to keep an eye on as the cycle continues:
Five-star DL Walter Nolen, four-star TE Oscar Delp, four-star RB George Pettaway, four-star LB Sebastian Cheeks, four-star ATH Dillon Tatum, three-star LB Micah Pollard, three-star WR Dillon Bell, and three-star EDGE Joshua Josephs.
