Michigan football has some tangible momentum on the recruiting trail right now and according to five-star commit Will Johnson, it could continue in the month of July.

Not long ago, it seemed like there was some real concern about Will Johnson and his commitment to the Michigan football program.

That was because even though Johnson pledged to the Wolverines this winter, he took an official visit to USC this month. Donte Williams, the cornerbacks coach there, is continuing to recruit Johnson and is making the Trojans out as an alternative if Michigan doesn’t work out.

Obviously, a poor recruiting class or another really poor season like the 2-4 campaign Michigan football suffered through last season could cause Johnson to worry about his decision because he’s said before that he wants to win and be part of a good recruiting class.

Who wouldn’t? Especially if you are the No. 12 recruit in the country, at least according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

But, Johnson made his own visit to Ann Arbor (another one) and it was an unofficial but he still really enjoyed it. He posted some pictures of himself in the blue pants with the white top that had social media buzzing and beyond that, Michigan just did a great job.

One visit isn’t going to ease the concerns the way a positive season will, but Johnson could see the growing momentum Michigan has on the trail and he even told Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider that he’s expecting big things next month, telling Webb: “I think July will be a big month for Michigan.”

Since June has already been good to the Wolverines with CJ Stokes and Aaron Alexander committing during “Victors Weekend” only to see four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal commit a few days later on Wednesday, July might be off the hook.

And if you look at the way things are trending, Michigan is the crystal ball leader with a number of recruits such as Mario Eugenio, Deone Walker, Dillon Bell, D’Arco Perkins-McAllister, and others such as Dillon Tatum, Justice Finkley, and Alessandro Lorenzetti.

So Johnson isn’t off base with his prediction and since he just spent time with a lot of these recruits, his predictions of a big month in July probably hold a lot of weight.
