Michigan football: Which coach would you choose over Jim Harbaugh?
If you could choose any head coach to lead Michigan football instead of Jim Harbaugh, who would it be?
Sometimes, being a Michigan football fan is hard. The lack of success over the past 10-15 years has put a dampener on the success achieved 20-30 years ago.
We as U-M fans have a right to be mad, to be honest. Michigan football still hasn’t won a Big Ten regular-season division title since the early 2000s (no I do not count the 2018 “East Division Champs”). It seems like all other Big Ten schools have won their conference more recently than the Wolverines.
Going even further, Michigan hasn’t won a national championship since 1997 (also the year before BCS took over). Seeing all of these other programs being more dominant recently who weren’t as dominant as U-M was in its heyday makes it an even harder pill to swallow.
Michigan fans can no longer dwell on the past though. They can remember the past fondly, but they can’t dwell on it. The past has no relevance to the now, in modern times.
Seeing all of these programs be dominant now, as the Alabama’s, Clemson’s, Oklahoma’s, and OSU’s of the world make me wonder (and I’m sure a lot of other U-M fans had this thought from time to time as well) which coach they would pick to coach Michigan football instead of Jim Harbaugh? Of course, only if this opportunity miraculously appeared.
For this exercise, the only coaching options to pick from to be Michigan football head coach are Lincoln Riley, Dabo Swinney, Ryan Day (yes I do know that an OSU coach is on the list, but at this point, I do not care, because we as U-M fans deserve someone elite no matter where he comes from) and Nick Saban. Also, the seasons that will be mentioned for each coach will only be in the last five seasons, since the playoff was formed.
