LSU Tigers, neutral site

Again, another surprising team that Michigan football has never played. The LSU Tigers have the 14th best winning percentage all-time. LSU has pretty much been mediocre over the last five seasons overall, just like Michigan.

Aside from the Tigers’ amazing undefeated 2019 campaign, they are inconsistent season-to-season just like Michigan (although they are a little bit, just a teensy bit more consistent than us) is.

Just like the Georgia game, this game would most likely be a neutral-site game. I feel like LSU would have a slight advantage in this matchup because overall, they come from a better conference and recruit slightly better than U-M year to year, but it all just depends.

LSU’s mediocrity is much more understanding than Michigan’s when they have to play Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, and Texas A&M year after year.

I feel like this game would be high-scoring as well. Pretty much all SEC teams score high, even the worst teams. Same as the Georgia game, if Michigan could beat LSU, a very solid SEC team, that would be a huge confidence booster if it were the first game of the season, and it would kind of (maybe, probably not) get Paul Finebaum off of Michigan’s back for once.

Michigan has to start scheduling harder opponents for its non-conference games. It doesn’t have to be every year. Maybe every two or three years, schedule a hard team.

Make it a home-and-home, or neutral site game. That game would be a chance to silence the critics right off the bat and give the team confidence for the rest of the season.

Who knows, maybe playing these high-level opponents will light more of a fire in them and they will show out. A man can dream, right?
