Over many years, Michigan football has won a lot of games. The most all-time in fact. Throughout the years, Michigan has had many winning football seasons. A lot of the Wolverines’ best seasons were a very long time ago, but still. That can’t be counted against them. A lot of teams are like that.

Anyways, with all the games Michigan football has won (964 to be exact), there are some teams that the Wolverines have never played, surprisingly. I guess it sort of makes sense (if you squint) because Michigan was one of the first teams to start playing football ever back in the 1800s. A lot of the other college teams in the FBS now weren’t even created back then.

A lot of colleges had football teams several years after Michigan first started playing. Michigan football was probably occupied with their traditional (annual) opponents for much of history (with an occasional random opponent thrown in) so I guess it makes sense that there are some opponents they’ve never played.

Excluding Oklahoma (who U-M is scheduled to play in 2024 2025, respectfully) here are five opponents Michigan has never played that they need to put on their schedule in the future (as a neutral site, non-conference games, or home-and homes):

Yes, I know, Boise State being the first on the list is probably not something you thought I’d put on here. But surprisingly. Michigan has never played Boise State.

Statistically speaking, the Broncos have the best winning percentage of any team of all time. Boise State is always very solid in their own conference, the Moutain West Conference.

This opponent is definitely no blow-off, and they would present a decent test right out of the gate if Michigan scheduled a future home-and-home series with them.

Plus, I really want to see Michigan travel to their field and play on their blue and orange field. The field gets mixed results, but I am one of the people who like the field. It is an eyesore to look at on tv though.
