Michigan football offered a four-star quarterback from California on Saturday and here’s what it means for the 2022 recruiting class.

Just recently, we were taking a look at Michigan football‘s quarterback recruiting in the 2022 class, and then, soon after, the Wolverines expanded the board.

Michigan has been showing interest in Justyn Martin, a four-star recruit in 2022 who is committed to California and on Saturday, the Wolverines finally jumped into the mix with an offer.

It’s an offer that could really shake up the quarterback board. Just over a week ago, there was one really one viable target at quarterback and that was three-star prospect, Nate Johnson.

Johnson has tons of athleticism and is a track athlete. He’s also taking a visit to Michigan in June and there seemed to be a strong mutual interest.

However, Michigan is looking for other options, which could be a sign that they aren’t as high on Johnson as we thought, or simply, they do want more options instead of just focusing on Johnson, who is ranked outside the top 900.

Remember, that visits will open up in June and that will give coaches a chance to get kids on campus and see them in person. There will be camps and opportunities to see if what’s on the tape really meets the eye.

New director of player personnel Courtney Morgan is obviously playing a role in Martin’s recruitment as another California prospect. At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, Martin is ranked as the No. 20 pro-style prospect, as well as No. 269 overall.

And it appears that Martin is open to taking visits and considering other schools, including Ole Miss according to 247 sports.

"“We have learned that Ole Miss is now all-in with 2022 QB Justyn Martin out of Inglewood (Ca.). This is their guy.  They believe he’s a dual-threat quarterback with a big arm that can really think on his feet.  Justyn is committed to Cal but says he’ll take his official visits.  They are really going to hammer home that another Cali QB is having a lot of success here in Matt Corra.”"

We’ll see if Michigan is able to get a visit but that’s the next step. Ole Miss and Cal have visits scheduled. Michigan State also jumped in with an offer as did Nebraska back in April, yet the Rebels feel like the biggest threat other than Cal.

Despite some of the other interested schools, this feels like a winnable recruitment for Michigan. The Wolverines also offered Conner Harrell recently out of Alabama, another kid Michigan should have a shot at, so things are picking up at the game’s most important position in 2022.
