Michigan Football: 3 potential replacements for Maurice Linguist
Cory Robinson
In his reporting on the Linguist departure to Buffalo, Sam Webb reported ($) the interest in Clink, but he also mentioned another name on Friday and that’s Cory Robinson, a defensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints.
Robinson is a guy that checks a lot of boxes. He got his start in coaching at the high school level, actually as a recruiting coordinator according to his profile with the University of Maryland, which is where he coached before leaving for the Saints.
Robinson worked at St. Frances Academy as the defensive coordinator before being Maryland’s director of player personnel. He then bounced around some but was the cornerbacks coach at Toledo, Temple, and Rutgers before taking the same post at Maryland.
The ties to the NFL are important to have but he knows the Big Ten and was a passing game coordinator for Maryland. He’s also got experience recruiting many of the areas Michigan frequents: Ohio, DMV, and New Jersey.
Those are all positives. And when you add that to what Robinson can bring on the field, it feels like the hierarchy of candidates should be Clink, Robinson, and Mallory.
Whatever the move, it needs to happen quickly to stop the bleeding.
