Michigan Football: Which Wolverines will go on Day 2 of NFL draft?
Michigan football had one player selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft and here’s a look at how many Wolverines will go on day two.
While some might argue that Michigan football hasn’t had elite-level talent, the Wolverines had their sixth first-round pick in the last five NFL drafts when Kwity Paye went 21st overall to the Indianapolis Colts.
Still, one first-round draft pick was a little disappointing, especially when looking back at some of the mock drafts prior to the 2020 season.
Many expected Jalen Mayfield, the offensive tackle to be a first-round pick, while even more such as Nico Collins, Ambry Thomas, and Cam McGrone were expected to push to be in the top 50 and maybe even the first round.
But we all know how that worked out. The Wolverines struggled this season and really, none of their draft prospects had stellar seasons.
Paye was solid and did what he could in four games, but it was his desire to play more than anything else that impressed scouts, even though he was dominant against Minnesota.
Yet, on day two, more Michigan football players should get picked, but checking out the latest mock draft from the Bleacher Report, it has only Mayfield going, so how many Wolverines will go on day two of the draft?
We take a look.
Who goes on Friday for Michigan football?
Right now, according to the mock of the Bleacher Report on day two, Mayfield is the only Wolverine that will go and he lasted until the third round at No. 85 overall to Tennessee.
That’s great value for a guy who has the potential to be a starting tackle in the NFL. At worst, Mayfield could be a really good guard. He’s got a nasty streak and if things at tackle don’t work out, he should be a starter either way.

As far as Collins, McGrone, and Thomas getting selected Friday? On that front, I’m less optimistic. There are some really good receivers left on the board and Rondale Moore, the Purdue star goes at the end of the second round in the B/R mock.
If that happens in real life, it won’t bode well for Collins, who could slide all the way into the fourth round or later as Donovan Peoples-Jones did a year ago.
I don’t feel great about Thomas or McGrone’s chances either. Thomas could be a steal and his speed should set him apart, but teams are wary of guys who didn’t play in 2020, so he’s going to have to prove himself as a later pick.
McGrone is also going to have to prove that he’s the guy from 2019, not 2020 and he could slip into the fourth or fifth round too.
Yet, this process is all very subjective. It only takes one team to fall in love and snatch you up, so we’ll see what happens on day two of the NFL Draft.
