There have been rumors about Andre Seldon Jr. transferring from Michigan football but his dad dispelled those on Twitter Friday.

The transfer portal has become a reality for college sports and it’s something that fans will just have to get used to.

With scholarship limits, teams can only have so many players on their roster, so even though Michigan football has lost a number of players to the transfer portal, it’s not really that unusual.

Michigan State just had 10 or so players hit the portal. The Spartans also added players in the portal. It’s just going to be part of the process.

The thing is having the players you want to hit the portal and not guys who are going to have an actual chance to contribute to your program.

That’s where Michigan football got some good news on Friday because one player that been talked about entering the portal was Andre Seldon Jr.

Seldon signed as part of Michigan football’s 2020 class and was ranked as the No. 161 prospect overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as the fourth-ranked player in the state of Michigan.

Recruited out of Belleville, Seldon is only 5-foot-8, but he has really good quickness and seemed like an ideal slot corner. Some thought he might have a chance to earn playing time right away in 2020.

It didn’t happen and he wasn’t mentioned among the starting group of defensive backs this spring, which prompted some rumors about a possible transfer.

Transfer rumors refuted

You never know how things are going to play out with the transfer portal, but it appears that Seldon Jr. isn’t going anywhere, at least according to his dad.

It’s pretty awesome to see that statement. I don’t think any Michigan football fans wanted to see Seldon leave the program after entering as such a highly-touted recruit just a year and change earlier.

It takes time for guys to develop and the starting lineup for next fall is far from set. Seldon has a unique skillset and he’ll get his chance to improve under the tutelage of Maurice Linguist.

We’ve seen so many players leave at the slightest hint of adversity and it’s nice to see someone stick it out. That’s what Michigan football needs — guys who will stay, compete, and win.

I have no doubt that Seldon can be a solid player for Michigan football. He’ll get his opportunity and hopefully, others will adopt his attitude of sticking it out, instead of running to the portal.
