It wasn’t a surprise to see Michigan football’s Kwity Paye get selected in the first round Thursday night as the Colts pulled the trigger at 21st overall.

At the end of the day, the wait for Michigan football defensive end Kwity Paye was maybe a little longer than expected, but he still found a perfect home with the Indianapolis Colts.

At 6-foot-4, 260-some pounds, Paye will be a great fit in the NFL. Not only is he an explosive pass rusher, but he’s also a really good run defender.

Some scouts thought that Paye was actually the best pass rusher in the draft and it’s easy to say that he’s one of those guys.

In terms of what it means for Michigan football, Paye is the sixth first-round pick under head coach Jim Harbaugh. It also couldn’t happen to be a better kid as the former three-star recruit has a great story and is going to absolutely work his tail off in the NFL.

Paye had a breakout season in 2018 when guys like Rashan Gary and others were injured. He burst onto the scene with two sacks, then had 6.5 in 2019 as he became one of the best pass rushers in the Big Ten.

In just four total games last season, Paye finished with 16 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks. While some players decided to opt-out, Paye never flinched about playing in the 2020 season even though he was already projected as a first-round pick.

That’s something that resonated with NFL teams as Paye even got hurt playing for Michigan football and returned during the 2020 season even though he didn’t have to. That’s dedication and you don’t always see that love for football in first-round picks.

Paye has incredible talent. He also has incredible character. He’s a true Michigan fan and Wolverine fans everywhere have got to be overjoyed for a true fan favorite.
