Michigan football made the top list for 2022 defensive tackle Deone Walker, plus more news on visits.

It seems like recruiting lists are getting longer and longer, but still, Michigan football made the top 13 list for in-state defensive tackle recruit Deone Walker.

Walker is a recruit out of Detroit Cass Technical and Michigan football was the first program to offer the now 6-foot-6, 304-pound defensive tackle who is clearly one of the top targets at the position.

Michigan is among the favorites but the list is extensive as his recruitment continues to go more national as a number of elite programs have entered the mix.

Michigan State also made it, as did LSU, Florida, Penn State, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Arizona State.

The SEC schools are always a threat and Kentucky especially has done a really good job of recruiting the state of Michigan. Texas also made the cut after offering just a couple of weeks ago, so they might be another team to watch.

Walker is currently a three-star prospect but he’s been moving up the rankings. He’s ranked No. 363 overall and is 38th among defensive tackles, as well as 11th in the state.

Elite 2022 OLB sets summer visit

Michigan is in good shape with Walker, in part, because the Wolverines got involved early in the process. When it comes to the 2022 recruiting class, Mike Macdonald, the new defensive coordinator, didn’t really have that chance after getting hired in January.

But looking ahead to 2023, Macdonald is already playing a key role with elite linebacker recruit Tackett Curtis. At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Curtis is a really interesting prospect. His freshman year highlights from 2019 show him playing a lot of safety but he’s tough enough to play in the box.

Curtis told 247 sports that Macdonald compared him to current Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen.

"“I have talked with (Linebackers) Coach (George) Helow, (Safeties) Coach (Ron) Bellamy, and (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Mike) McDonald. Coach McDonald mentioned how he coached Patrick Queen and how I relate to him in my game! They have a great program! “It means a lot because Patrick Queen is a stud for the Ravens and him saying that means a lot of what he thinks about me!”"

Curtis is out of Louisiana, which is the home state of Ronald Bellamy. Michigan football doesn’t land a ton of recruits from the state, but they’ve at least done enough to secure a visit this summer and that’s a very good start.
