Reinforcements are needed

When the 2021 recruiting class was signed, Jim Harbaugh said that Michigan football was going to be using the transfer portal more in 2021.

Yet, that hasn’t happened.

The Wolverines did add Bowman from the portal, but according to Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider (subscription required), he might be coming as a walk-on.

I can buy that Michigan’s secondary is going to be better after a year of development. Daxton Hill taking a step towards being an elite defender would be a huge development as would Brad Hawkins being healthy for the entire season.

But the same guys are set to start, at least from what players have said, not much has changed on the depth chart. The scheme and coaching will be different and should make a difference, but will that be enough to make dramatic improvements?

The Wolverines will be depending on the same guys on the D-line too.

Next. What we've learned this spring. dark

That’s not a bad thing. Mazi Smith and Chris Hinton can surely take a step forward, as can the players in the secondary, but adding some talent in the portal is needed.
