Michigan Basketball: Awaiting decisions from Eli Brooks and others
Now that Chuandee Brown has moved onto the NBA, all eyes are on Eli Brooks to see if he will return to the Michigan basketball team next season.
One by one, the decisions by Michigan basketball players are coming in and as of right now, we know that Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown are moving onto professional basketball.
Both Mike and Brown transferred to Michigan as graduates and played one season. They could have played another, due to the special rules regarding eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic that allows all players to return without counting against scholarship numbers.
There was a time when it was thought that Brown might return. But it seems he had a change of heart and he will certainly be missed.
The next big decision is going to come from Eli Brooks.
More Michigan basketball decisions
After the season was over, there was some thought that Brooks would return, but it doesn’t seem like any decisions have been made at this point.
However, after playing the last four seasons for the Wolverines, it would make more sense for Brooks to return, especially after he has flourished so much under Juwan Howard.

Of course, U-M has to wait for Franz Wagner to make his NBA draft decision, but it’s almost guaranteed that he’s going to go to declare for the draft.
Hunter Dickinson might do the same, yet he is expected to return unless his draft stock is much higher than expected.
There is also some idea that Austin Davis might consider another year, although six years in college is quite a bit. Other players have done it though and Juwan did say after the season that he would welcome all of the seniors back which would include Davis.
Because if Davis doesn’t return, the backup center position might be one of the needs that the Wolverines seek to fill in the transfer portal.
The backcourt is going to be another need, especially if Brooks doesn’t return. If he does, he would be one of the starting guards and has the ability to share time at point guard as he did last season.
So in terms of building the roster and looking to the portal, there’s not much Michigan can do unless it gets a decision from Brooks and others.
Michigan is only expected to have one roster spot available and it needs to use it wisely.
