The Michigan basketball team will take on SEC foe LSU in the round of 32 on Monday after taking care of Texas Southern on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines will have to play better if they hope to make another Sweet 16 appearance.

The Wolverines looked ready and played that way in the first half, but the second half was a different story. They were plagued by lethargic defense and fouls that allowed the Tigers to get as close as 12 points.

Michigan basketball went away from what has made it so successful and started jacking up a ton of threes and when they didn’t fall it completely halted the offense. When you are shooting well that isn’t a problem but Michigan has won this year by working the ball inside and then hitting deep shots out of that. They went away from that and it almost came back to haunt them.

Luckily for them, Texas Southern wasn’t quite good enough to make them pay, but starting on Monday that all changes. That Wolverines side of the the region went chalk and they will now face LSU, a tough SEC opponent, and then if they win a tough Colorado or Florida State team.

Michigan will have to play much better if they even expect to make it to the past the first weekend. Alabama, on the other hand, has seen their path to a possible matchup with Michigan in the Elite Eight completely open up as every team left on their side of the bracket is a double digit seed.

Either way, we knew it wouldn’t be easy for the Wolverines and it starts on Monday night. But before we get to their second game of the tournament we take a look at three keys for Michigan to beat LSU.
