Star players

This one is pretty obvious, but you need really talented players to reach the Final Four. We have seen plenty of teams and Virginia, the last team to win an NCAA Tournament, win with 1-2 NBA guys, without being loaded with lottery picks.

Franz Wagner is going to be a first-round pick and could probably help himself become a lottery pick with a strong tournament. Hunter Dickinson is another player that will be in the NBA at some point.

Big guys aren’t as valued as they used to be, but he feels like a second-round pick at worst. Dickinson was named Second-Team All-American and also earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors.

Not many teams have the kind of player inside to defend him and if you have to rely on double teams, Michigan can make you pay.

That’s the thing about star players, they have to be surrounded with enough talent to overcome certain defensive gameplans, and Michigan still has a solid surrounding cast if Dickinson and Wagner can take their games to the next level.
