Michigan Basketball: 3 Wolverines who need to step up in NCAA Tourney
Franz Wagner
Franz Wagner was Michigan basketball’s third-leading scorer during the season at 12.8 points per game, but he will need to carry more of the load now that Livers is out.
It will put more pressure on Dickinson to score more inside and if he could play as well as he did in that opening stretch of Big Ten games, Wagner wouldn’t need to do as much scoring.
However, as good as I think Dickinson will be if the Wolverines want to win three, four or five games in this tournament, Wagner has to be special.
Wagner is one of the better two-way players in this tournament. There’s no question about that and his NBA draft status will reflect that this summer. He can attack the bucket, shoot the three and take over games defensively.
For the Wolverines to reach the Final Four, he needs to do all that and shoot the ball well from beyond the arc. Wagner is capable of doing that and if he takes over in the NCAA Tournament, maybe he will go from guaranteed first-rounder to guaranteed lottery pick.
