Michigan basketball got a No. 1 seed in the East Region of the NCAA tournament, but the bracket is going to be difficult. Here are three thoughts.
There might have been some worry that Michigan basketball wasn’t going to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but the Wolverines did end up as the top seed in the East Region.
Of course, the bracket is going to be difficult and there are a number of teams more than capable of knocking off the Wolverines.
But before we dive in too far deep into the biggest threats, here are three thoughts on the No. 1 seed and the Wolverines path to the Final Four.
A just reward
After winning the Big Ten regular-season championship and going 20-4 with a number of quality wins, the Wolverines deserved to be at the top of their region.
It was clear from looking at the brackets that Michigan basketball probably has the most difficult path of any No. 1 seed, which makes sense because the Wolverines are seeded lower than Gonzaga, Baylor and Illinois.
It’s hard to say that it’s a big achievement to get a No. 1 seed because the goal is to win championships and all that really does is gives you an easier path.
Michigan has lost three of its last five games and is likely going to be without one of its best players, Isaiah Livers, but there are still some solid pieces on this roster, which is capable of reaching the Final Four.
Michigan getting a top seed hasn’t happened since the days of Fab Five in 1993. It’s been an incredible season and this was a good reward.
