Michigan football has been trending in the wrong direction with four-star linebacker Joshua Burnham and now it’s looking like a lost cause.

The Michigan football team landed one of its top recruiting targets in the state of Michigan in the class of 2022, but it appears as though they will miss on another.

Last month, the Wolverines landed the commitment of five-star cornerback Will Johnson, one of the best recruits in the state and the country. He’s a 6-foot-3 corner and is ranked by 247 sports composite rankings as the top player in the state of Michigan.

Right behind him though is Joshua Burnham, a four-star outside linebacker from Traverse City. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker is ranked ninth at his position and No. 115 overall. He’s also a key priority for Michigan football, but despite a strong push by the Wolverines, all of his expert picks now have him projected to commit to Notre Dame.

Burnham has also announced a decision day of March 17, which also isn’t a good sign for the Wolverines. That sounds like someone who has their mind made up.

While Michigan football was the crystal ball leader with Burnham for a long time, it started to change last week and now, it’s just about unanimous that Notre Dame will be the pick.

The Wolverines have been hurt by some staff turnover and the loss of Brian Jean-Mary to Tennessee hurt in this recruitment. That and the better job being done by Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman seemed to seal the deal for the Irish.

Some experts haven’t changed their picks but there are now 11 crystal ball projections from 247 sports including guys like Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, as well as Steve Lorenz, Steve Wilftong, and Tom Loy.

Basically, everything you would turn to for information, believes this is going the way of the Irish.

It’s a major disappointment for Michigan football if it does play out that way when Burnham decides March 17. Surely, the staff will keep pushing, but sometimes, the relationship just isn’t there and that could be the case with the new staff especially.
