Some additional thoughts on the commitment of five-star cornerback Will Johnson to the Michigan football team.

The addition of Will Johnson to Michigan football‘s 2022 recruiting class wasn’t unexpected Sunday, but it was still a gigantic addition for the Wolverines.

Not only is Johnson one of the best cornerbacks in the country, a position Michigan football hasn’t recruited all that well recently, he is the top player in the state of Michigan in 2022 and sets the Wolverines up for a really strong class in this cycle.

USC and Ohio State were the other finalists, but this was a national recruitment. Johnson had offers from just about every major power, but in the end, Jim Harbaugh and company were able to get him to stay at home.

Here’s more on how they did it and what it means for Michigan football.

Mo Linguist is the man

It’s been said over and over again, but Maurice Linguist was such an incredible hire by Harbaugh and he proved it in the recruitment of Johnson.

The bottom line is that without the addition of Linguist to the staff as co-DC and cornerbacks coach, I don’t think Will Johnson ends up with U-M. It really is as simple as that.

Obviously, Harbaugh and even Ron Bellamy played an important role. Remember, Harbaugh was vital in convincing Johnson to give the new staff time to recruit him. Johnson did that and the Wolverines did the rest.

Linguist has already recruited two other four-star defensive backs to Ann Arbor already and after Johnson committed Sunday, he said Michigan is far from done.
