Michigan football is shifting its focus to a quarterback from Ohio in 2022, as another target trends to Clemson.

In the world of recruiting, there can definitely be a domino effect, particularly at the quarterback position and we saw that with the commitment of Ty Simpson to Alabama Friday.

Simpson of course was a target of Michigan football at one time, but the Wolverines were unable to get enough traction to be a serious contender.

For a long time, it looked like Simpson was going to go to Clemson. But a late push from Nick Saban and Alabama ended up winning the commitment for the Crimson Tide.

You might be wondering how this impacts Michigan?

It’s simple because one of the Wolverines top targets at quarterback in 2022, Cade Klubnik out of Texas, was offered by the Tigers once Simpson made his decision and Clemson is now the strong favorite to get him.

Klubnik tweeted out that “God is good” following his offer. Then, the crystal ball picks started flooding in and he now has five picks to Clemson.

Klubnik was just upgraded in the latest ranking release and moved into the top 100. Yet, it appears like Michigan won’t have a chance here unless Clemson decides to take a different QB.

That doesn’t mean that Michigan football is out of options though. The Wolverines recently offered quarterback Drew Allar out of Ohio and he’s becoming the focus for U-M at the position and that was the case even before Clemson offered Klubnik.

The Wolverines extended the offer to Allar a couple of weeks back and the 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback has taken a big jump in the rankings since then. He was rated as a three-star when Michigan offered and now he’s ranked No. 257 overall and as a four-star recruit.

Allar is ranked as the No. 10 pro-style passer and in the 247 sports specific rankings, he’s actually ranked 89th overall and as the sixth-best player in the state of Ohio.

EJ Holland of Rivals (subscription required) updates the recruitment of Allar and while you will need to subscribe to read the whole thing, it’s safe to say Michigan football is making a push.

And with not a lot of options left on the board at quarterback in 2022, there’s no doubt that at this point in time, Allar is the top target at the position.
