The recruiting momentum keeps moving forward in the class of 2022 for Michigan football as two key in-state recruits are projected to the Wolverines.

As far as Michigan football‘s recruiting efforts in the class of 2022, there are few targets more important than Dillon Tatum and Joshua Burnham.

Tatum and Burnham are both in-state recruits and elite ones at that as each is ranked in the top five in the state of Michigan according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

Burnham, who is listed as an outside linebacker, but who Michigan football recently started recruiting as more of an athlete is the No. 114 player overall and the fourth-best in the state. He’s a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder and as an edge-rushing outside linebacker, I think he’d excel.

Yet, regardless of the position he plays, Burnham feels like a very solid Michigan lean. He already had six crystal ball picks to the Wolverines and added another Wednesday from Steve Wiltfong, a national analyst for 247 sports.

Burnham recently released his top three schools which also included Notre Dame and Wisconsin and of those three, I feel very good about the Wolverines chances of winning this recruitment.

A new crystal ball

Another priority target in the 2022 recruiting class is Tatum, who has been recruited as both a running back and defensive back by the Wolverines.

He’s from West Bloomfield and is ranked as the fifth-best player in the state of Michigan and No. 248 overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

Obviously, with his former head coach Ron Bellamy now on the U-M staff, Michigan has a built-in advantage there but new cornerbacks coach and co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist has also connected with him early.

Well, the Wolverines landed the first crystal ball pick put in for Tatum by Wiltfong, who is projecting the four-star recruit to Michigan with a confidence level of seven on a 1-10 scale.

Tatum did pick up two expert picks for Michigan State from Rivals, yet, the most recent pick is for the Wolverines and 60 percent of his Futurecast picks have him headed to Ann Arbor.

At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, the Wolverines could honestly use Tatum on offense or defense. Defensive back is one of the biggest areas of need in 2022 but U-M doesn’t have a running back yet and isn’t honed it on one, although Mike Hart is working on that.

Either way, these two are must-land recruits in 2022 and it’s great to see things already trending in the right direction.
